Many teenagers, and even adults, suffer from acne. It’s not only painful and irritating but also makes you lose confidence in yourself. Many over-the-counter spot gels use witch-hazel so you might as well make your own, gentler version. (Just make sure you’re not allergic to witch-hazel in the first place!)
Herbal Remedy: Witch Hazel Gel
200g witch hazel twigs and preferably young leaves
500ml hot water
6 sachets vegetable gelatine
2 tbsp vodka
1-Place the witch hazel in a pan with the hot water. Over a gentle heat, slowly reduce to a third of its volume until you reach about 165ml liquid (this will take about an hour).
2-Line a sieve with muslin, then strain the liquid through it into a mixing bowl. Add the gelatine, stirring to dissolve. Leave to cool.
3-Once cool, add the vodka and stir well, then pour the gel into a wide-mouthed jar.
Dab on spots and skin irritations whenever needed.
Storage- Keeps for up to 6 months in the refrigerator.
